Special Character Application Empty Special Character Application

Post by Mad Max Tue Nov 24, 2015 7:55 pm

Pre-discussed with Psycho Memester. There wasn't an app format so I kind of winged it.

Advanced skill(s) applying for: Science (Intermediate Level), Lockpicking (Intermediate Level).

Applying for Gear: A Pip-Boy MarkIV: Serial#PIPM4.5486VTT-004-31
Vault 31 Utility Jumpsuit
10mm Pistol w/ Custom Grip(cosmetic only) and extended magazine (extra 4 rounds for 16 total)
Combat knife(decent condition)
A small toolkit
Small amount of basic supplies (water, food, meds)
and couple RobCo manuals.

Why would you like this gear?: I'd like this gear to help my character hold her own at least long enough to get wherever she winds up in the server's IC location. I believe her survival would be more plausible if she had more than just her fists in her travels, but remains equipped with things she clearly scrounged up quickly in a hurry during her hasty departure.

Backstory for having these skills and gear:

Robin was born sixteen years ago within the confines of Vault 31, tucked in the expansive sub-level 'paradise' and kept oblivious to the world beyond the giant metal door she was forbidden from even going near. Both of her parents were lost in the crossfire of a failed attempt to overthrow the appointed leader of their once humble home. It was a small group but they'd managed to shake up the rest of the dwellers quite a bit, their leader spouting some accusations toward their Overseer no one could make sense of beside the occasional mention of 'monster'. It was an odd occurrence and the majority wrote it off as the man being a lunatic, given that the Overseer had been rather fair and ensured things were kept relatively peaceful and serene during his rule. Rumors of the cause ranged from a med addiction to a relative being ejected from the Vault due to misconduct.

Typically the Overseer was fair but stern, but repeated offense or posing a clear threat to the sanctity of the Vault got the delinquent kicked out and left to fend for themselves in the 'beyond' past the main door. After the loss of her parents at a young age she was taken in and raised by a friend of her parents, Natalie who had another daughter of her own named Mara. Robin wasn't ever sure what became of Natalie's husband/Mara's father, the woman stated it wasn't a subject she enjoyed speaking of and she decided not to ever press it any further than that. Robin grew up about as happily as any kid could in her conditions, forming a rather strong sisterly bond with Mara and sticking by her side throughout their entire childhood. She was only a few months younger, but she always seemed to look up to Mara as the elder and wiser of them, growing fond of both her ambition and knack for trouble. Once they reached fifteen they were given more responsibilities and tasked with picking a field that could help benefit the Vault in the future. While Mara chose to study mechanics and repairs Robin stuck with computers and robotics. They made a fairly decent team for some beginning-level technicians; Robin would clear any software errors in the terminals or Mister Gutsys they still had around, and Mara would repair or replace any physical parts that needed some TLC.

While they were content with their lives for a good while, Mara herself finally asked about what had become of her father. After some prying, Natalie caved and gifted her late husband's journal to her daughter, leaving both her and Robin to skim through it. They discovered he used to head into the beyond for the prior Overseer to scavenge for supplies and report the condition of the world outside. One day, unfortunately, he never returned. The more they read about the world outside the more curious they became, and the more they began to realize just how small and limited their living space really was. Their entire world was just a number of levels and winding metal hallways, nothing more. They wanted to see what lay beyond the main door, but the times of sending people scouting into the wastes had ended with the death of Mara's father, and with the new Overseer in place the only way to earn a ticket outside was to cause enough trouble to get yourself thrown out. It was a rather stupid, poorly thought-out idea, but they were both young and yearning for more than the same tasks, same faces and same food day in and day out. The meat wasn't bad, but since it was the only type of meat they had it got a little bland after so many years of it even though it was served more rarely than their garden-grown crops.

It started as being late for work, then slacking off, and eventually moved in pranking the Overseer or security forces, stealing rations, and finally sabotaging some of the Robots. The overseer himself wound up getting an arm fractured by the flailing limb of the malfunctioning mechanical servant. While that last bit was an unintended side effect it came with a heftier price than either of them could've ever expected. They decided to cut back on their antics; wanting to explore was one thing but they didn't want to wind up actually hurting anybody over it. "You ready to head back yet?" Mara's voice snapped Robin out of her little daze staring at the green-tinted text upon the screen with that idle hum she'd grown to think of an electronic lullaby emanated from the terminal. "Huh?-" she questioned whilst blinking twice in rapid succession, lifting her chin out of the cradle her palm had formed and craning her neck to peer over toward her partner-in-crime. "Mm, not yet." she finally answered and raised both arms above her hand now, lacing her fingers and cracking them lightly with a yawn before returning them to the keyboard below. "I think it's best I actually get at least some work done this time around. Go ahead and go home before Mom gets worried, tell her I won't be long and uh, save me a plate if she made dinner already?" Mara just smirked as she finished packing up her tools. "Uhuh, always about the food~" she teased and tousled Robin's hair as she passed by, earning a dismissive swat of the younger girl's hand before her elder sibling leaned down to give the top of her head a little kiss. "Don't end up passing out in here again this time, geek." Robin rolled her eyes and muttered "Grease-monkey." in retort before giving a little wave over her shoulder and returning to her time spent reading through the terminal's errors and attempting to correct them.

It was another couple of hours before she returned home and by that time the halls were mostly empty in a bout of down-time where the majority of dwellers were resting comfortably in their humble abodes. She pressed the small button on the panel next to their door, letting it slide open with a hiss and stepping into the darkened room. She blinked a few times, fumbling around until she found the light-switch and letting it flicker on with a light buzz. Uncleaned plates were still left on the table and one of the flimsy plastic chairs were overturned. "Geez, did they really leave me with cleaning duty too?" she shook her head and walked over, pulling the chair back up and tucking it into place. "Real nice guys!" she called out toward the closed door that lead to the back where their beds were housed. "Thanks for not saving any for me either, and you were getting on my case about always being hungry."  she smiled and began gathering the plates to take them over to the sink. Shortly after setting them inside to begin washing them she heard a quiet sound from behind the door, an awful lot like.. sniffling? Crying? Her brows knitted as she curiously made her way over and tapped the panel to let the door slide open, leaning over and poking her head inside. She turned it slightly to find Natalie there sitting upon Mara's bed, clutching the girl's sweater up closer against her chest and weeping lightly into it. ".. Mom?" she questioned in a more hushed tone as genuine concern swept over her features. The woman gasped a little, turning her gaze sharply towards Robin and shakily lowering the article of clothing. "Robin! What are you doing here? I-- I thought they.." she started to stammer a little more unintelligibly.

Before she could request the other calm down and explain more coherently she heard their door suddenly slide shut with another hiss, turning toward the sound only to be met with the brunt end of a baton smacking into her, sending her reeling and crumbling down onto the floor with a pained grunt, her vision already blurring slightly and her ears partially ringing just from the sudden shock and abrupt blow to the cranium. She saw several pairs of boots stride past her and into the room, and heard the loud plea and protest of her Mother. "Natalie, you know how this works. You know there are rules-.." her hearing dipped out again with another ring flooding her ears, a bit of blood dripping from the end of her lip as a result of her teeth scraping her tongue and cheek, aaand she was pretty sure one of her teeth was close to falling out at this point. "-- husband. This is no different." "You monster! Where did you take her, damn you!?" "Nat, you're causing a scene.. People are still trying to sleep you know. Just relax and let us take care-" as the Overseer attempted to lay his only free hand given that the other arm was still strung up in a cast upon the woman's shoulder she lashed out at him, giving a hard shove to his wounded arm that earned a pained shout from the man before she was promptly struck by an accompanying Security Officer and knocked over onto the mattress. "If you want to be with her so badly, fine. Tanner." he said, directing the Officer nearby him who quickly withdrew a sidearm at his waist. "No-.." Robin muttered, struggling to regain her senses and compose herself enough to crawl forward. "Stop!" her voice was more clear now, gaining the attention of a couple other Officers as the only one who'd been named thus far grabbed a nearby pillow and planted it firmly only Natalie's face. All she could see with the brief shift of his pistol before that ringing flooded the room once more in a puff of feathers and fluff from the pillow and a light splatter of some ominous looking fluids. Shortly after she turned over and received a boot to the side of the head, finally rendering her unconscious.

She wasn't quite sure how long it'd been since she awoke, but the first thing that hit her was the horrible rotten and coppery smell that flooded her nostrils and almost immediately made her want to gag. Her hearing was the next sense to return, muffled drulling that sounded like speech some small distance away, metal grinding, some wet cracking, clinking, thumping.. Where the hell was she? Little by little her eyes fluttered open reveal the interior of the storage room that'd been turned into more of a meat locker. Here she was, hung upside down by a hook from the cieling, swinging very slowly back and forth with her movement as she wriggled awake. All the blood in her body hadn't gone to her head so it was likely she wasn't kept in this position for too terribly long. She turned her head slowly, glancing around the musty and dim interior with narrowed eyes. Hunks of meat hung on the hooks in the chilled room for preserving, but she couldn't really recognize them as any animal she'd read about before. One of them looked strangely.. torso-shaped. Her eyes grew as wide as dinner-plates at the sudden realization, fear and panic quickly setting in and forcing her heart to pump with adrenaline as she whipped her head around, glancing from hook to hook. Blood on the floor, that terrible stench, a pile of boots in the corner of the room that'd yet to be cleaned and on the other side of the room a door that was left partially open where those strange sounds had been coming from. All she could see was the slit of light from the more brightly lit adjacent area pouring in. She turned her head to glance up at her feet. Robin was being hung at the ankles and her hands were bound together behind her back. This was going to be an utter pain in the ass to wriggle out of, if she even could. Almost immediately she started tugging her hands apart to struggle against their restraints. She grit her teeth and hissed with discomfort and pain as the robe ground against her flesh and burned somewhat after a little while. She wasn't even sure if she was making progress but at this point she knew doing nothing wouldn't help her.

Soon she heard the voices pick up once more, raising in volume briefly in some commotion before another 'bang' rang outward followed by another two soon after. Her breathing picked up in pace as she started struggling harder against her restraints. Soon enough that door slid open more fully with a rattle and a bout of labored breathing entered the room. The figure shuffled on over between the rows, glancing back and forth before it settled its sights upon Robin. The figure reached over to a panel next to them on the wall and flicked on one row of lights out of several, but enough to illuminate where she was hanging. It was at that point she noticed the rather familiar features of the now clearly feminine figure. "Mara!" she called out, breaking out into some grin that was a mixed between terrified, relieved, happy and sad all at once. "You scared the shit out of me, what-" she blinked, noticing the other had a knife tucked in her belt and a pistol held in her left hand, her right being.. well, missing. "What the hell happened to your hand." she questioned in a bewildered fashion as she grow incapable of processing so many thoughts and emotions all at once. Mara just shook her head and tucked the pistol into her belt, sliding the knife free and stepping behind Robin to carefully cut her restraints free "Hold your hands toward the ground, fold your arms a little." she advised before cutting at Robin's pantleg where she was being hung, allowing her to drop to the cold floor with a small 'oof', shaking her head and picking herself up even though part of her was still trembling. She took a moment to look her sibling over and all in all it didn't look good; she looked a bit beat up, pale, and of course her friggin' hand was missing. "They have me on meds, keeping me standing and awake for the time being.. But I don't think I'm gonna make it once they wear off." she explained, inhaling shakily and handing the knife over then, followed by the pistol. "A gun? Come on are you serious? I've never-" "Robin!" her sister snapped, making her jump briefly before she stared at her. "I need you.. to listen now. Those riots, back when we were kids? Were because of this.. Were because someone knew that didn't want to keep it a secret anymore. They got rid of the old Overseer.. and tried to get rid of my Dad, but he escaped. He didn't die, out there.. at least I don't think." her breathing was growing a little more heavy now with a struggle to retain consciousness.

"You have to get the hell out of here. You know the way to the door, and you'll figure out how to open it. You need to leave, and go now." She opened her mouth to speak and just stared for a moment before perking up. "But you-" "Forget about me already! I already told you. Every second you waste standing here is another less you have to run. They either heard what I did or they're going to notice their guys aren't back before too long, so just please focus and get out already." "I-" it pained her, deeply, but at this moment it was either stay here and question things, and wind up as some skinned piece of human beef in a freezer or book it and make a break for the exit. "-I love you." was all she could muster, leaning in to quickly hug her sibling who weakly managed to return the squeeze. "His name's Arthur. Try to.. I don't know, see if you can find out anything. Something. I'd like to think he's still out there. Get going." Robin nodded slowly as tears welled up in the corners of her eyes, hesitantly pulling herself away before she scampered off toward the opposite side of the room, shakily clutching the pistol between her fingers with the knife tucked into a rounded strap along her belt. She nearly slipped on some part of the floor and surely didn't have any desire to glance down and see what had caused her to do so.

The next room she passed into was another storage of sorts, only containing the clothes and belongings of what she presumed were the previous 'trouble-making' victims. She pursed her lips at the rather abundant variety of personal affections and clothing. Robin pressed onward into the hall, taking a small glance around before sneaking along and quickly thinking about what she'd need. Some food, water, maybe something to patch herself up if need be. She knew nothing of navigation but there were always those tools they used to give to people when they went out into the Wastelands to search for supplies that had a map function to them; Pip-Boys, that was it! Mid-way up a flight of stairs she heard an alarm ring out and the PA system within the vault crackle to life. "Fellow dwellers, this is an emergency broadcast. There is an escaped and armed fugitive roaming the halls, please return to your homes and lock your doors while Security handles the matter. I repeat, return to your homes and lock your doors. Do not leave until the all-clear has been given." she cursed quietly and hurried along, carrying herself as fast as her legs could carry her, having to fumble and skid to a stop at a hallway as she saw a couple Officers rounding the corner at the other end, quickly taking off down another path and winding around through the maze-like corridors she'd learned to familiarize herself with. She quickly tapped another door panel and slipped into a supply closet, shutting it swiftly and glancing around before she tucked herself down against the wall next to the door, holding her breath as she heard the thud of boots near and pause, presuming the guard was glancing around before they continued onward. She gave it a short while before she opened the door once more and poked her head outside, scanning the hallway before continuing on her way.

With some time spent ducking in and out of different rooms and creeping through the halls she managed to make her way to the foyer, running straight into one of the guards as she rounded the corner, knocking them both forward slightly. "What the hell?" he questioned before whipping around to see her standing there with the pistol held upward and held rather tightly between both of her hands. "Don't move!" she demanded, taking small steps to her left and trying to keep as much distance between her and the man as she could whilst simultaneously moving over toward the hall that lead to the room housing the vault's door. The man kept his hands raised at first before he took note of her posture. "Come on Robbie.. why don't we both just calm down. You're not going to shoot anybody. Let's just puuut that down and we can all talk this out, yeah?" he suggested with a light smile, slowing taking a step towards her, then another. "Just relax, Robin. You're not a killer, I know you're not. You're a good girl, right? Now just put the fucki-" Bang. Her finger jerked back on the trigger and sent a round pounding outward and straight through the mid-left portion of the man's chest. His eyes widened at the impact, gloved hands clutching at the smoldering hole in his vest before he keeled over on the ground and crumpled in a bleeding heap. "You-.. bitch." he hissed out before she turned tail and ran back towards her destination. She skidded to another halt and tucked the gun into her belt, fingers rapidly tapping away at the terminal to help unlock the door. She tapped her toes idly in a clearly anxious and nervous manner, in quite a rush given that she was running for her life. Before too long she heard "Hey, over here!" over her shoulder, glancing over it to find that another guard had discovered his fallen comrade. "Shit." she cursed and finished up the last command line, pressing it and watching text flash rapidly over the screen for a soft 'click' was heard as the door unlocked. She slapped the panel just as a voiced boomed "Freeze!" behind her, more or less throwing herself into the room and ducking behind the wall immediately, slapping the panel as the guard fired and send bullets whizzing and pinging against the door and floor as she hastily tapped at the console on the other side, re-engaging the lock once the heavy door had slid shut. She turned around, glancing around the dusty and clearly not well-maintained interior of the door's room, glancing to her left at the large gear-shaped door kept in place by another machine with a button and panel of its own.

Robin jogged to the storage room just behind the access panel for the vault's controls, tapping a button and shuffling inside once the door flung open and the lights inside flickered on. She squinted a bit as she visually scanned the room before spotting the display case with what few Pip-Boys remained. She walked over and attempted to pull it open but found it locked. She glanced down and huffed out; the glass was too thick to smash or shoot through most likely. It was lucky she had another talented her and her sister had picked up in their time together; lockpicking. She pulled out the small kit she always kept with her and went to work with the two small instruments necessary to pick the lock, slowly feeling for the tumblers and lifting them up properly into their raised and unlocked position until she twisted it to one side with a 'click' and the case flipped its top open, kicking a bit of dust up. She waved a hand in front of her and coughed a few times as she reached inside, pulling one of the beige-colored Pip-Boys outward and looking it over, slowly setting it upon her left wrist and toggling the power, at which point the rest of it clamped shut around her forearm and used its locking mechanism to keep in place until she disabled it. "Fancy.." she murmured and briefly admired the screen as it ran its basic start-up process and ran diagnostics, heading over towards the vault door and glancing between it and the panel before sighing somewhat, shoulders sagging as she finally fiddled with the panel before pressing upon one of the two larger rounded buttons on the console. A light flickered on above and began spinning, a small alarm playing within the room to warn of the door's inevitable opening. A hiss rang out from the air seal being broken as the heavy gear was slid backwards, slowly being rolled off to one side by the same machine that'd kept it in place all this time. She descended the ramp and made her way forward into the almost murky tunnel with some bright light at the end of it in a curve that lead upward. Was that.. sunlight? Genuine sunlight?

She hurried along, not even seeming to mind that the door rolled back shut once she was half-way down the tunnel and locked into place once more. Once Robin reached the area with daylight she had to squint and shield her eyes for a moment at the abundance of a light she hadn't experienced before in her life. "Hn.." she pushed onward however, watching her footing as she ascended toward the mouth of the cave and the hill it stood upon. She lowered her arm once her eyes finally adjusted a bit, peering out over the wind-swept Wasteland that lay before her. A scorched earth irradiated in some locations, lush with brown grass and charcoaled trunks, with the ruins of what neighborhoods and civilization used to reside nearby, and still with all of its devastation it had a unique kind of beauty. Slowly a light crackling came from her Pip-Boy, urging her to lift it upward and switch over to the Radio tab via a knob on the right side of the device. She tuned in to the signal that was coming through. "-are not alone in the desolate abyss of this once great country. Life had continued on, and we must unite to make this land ours once more. Fight for a promising tomorrow, for freedom and peace, for a chance to return to how things were before. Fight the future." She took a small glance behind her down the dark cave tunnel before returning her attention to the slope of the hill she stood upon, inhaling slowly and beginning her descent down the unmarked pathway that lead her into a new chapter of her life. Where she'd go from here, and what would become of her was yet to be decided. Her fate was now in the hands of the harsh outside world and its inhabitants.

RP Sample:

/me breathed shakily then, clamping a hand tightly over her mouth as she remained tucked up against the wall while the Raiders scowered the area down the hall just past the front door.

"You sure she came this way?"
"Swear it! Saw her plain as day, like a dainty little morsel."
"Ye'? She aint gonna be so dainty when we're done with'er."

/me narrowed her eyes a bit at the cackling that followed, slowly pushing up to a stand but wincing as she lightly bumped her head on the console above her. She blinked, sliding to one side and standing up more fully to look it over. In her quick retreat he hadn't even noticed it.

/me began tapping quietly at the keyboard, sparing a few glances out of the doorway to ensure either of the Raiders weren't nearing her side of the room just yet. She ran through the commands until she found the controls for bringing the Sentry Bot in containment back online. She frowned once she was prompted for a password, glancing down to her pipboy and turning it to read over one of the books she'd scanned earlier on how to access bypass functions within the terminal.

/me was tapping away like crazy in the next few moments, working quickly to hack her way through and find the suitable password. Of course the increased noise gained the attention of one of the Raiders. "Little biiiirdy." he said with another cackle. "That you?" he questioned, as Robin's heart rate increased and she finished deciphering the last letter of the password.

/me entered the password in, quickly passing through the rest of the command prompts until she was able to bring the Sentry Bot online with a final tap of the enter key for confirmation. As the Raider passed into the room just before reaching her the tube inside opened with a hissed, the Sentry Bot that'd been kept in stasis prior to their arrival rolling out of its containment area and sparking to life with a whirr. "What the hell!?" the man exclaimed, only to quickly be met with a burst of lazer fire from one of the robot's arms.

/me clenched her first, jerking her arm back in a brief victory chant of "Yes!" hushed beneath her breath. It didn't take long for the Sentry Bot to roll out of the room and encounter the other Raider, quickly dispatching it. Both crazed maneaters were now taken care of, leaving her to escape the facility.. juuuust after she figured out how to get past the now active murder-bot that was designed to eliminate any intruders, one of which she was. "..Damnit."

I'm also going to give my +support on this application. Seems like a well put together character and backstory, should cause some interesting character interactions. Might wanna hide that pip boy from the BoS however.
